RAY ALLEN’S SHOOTING FORM

May 30th, 2018

Ray Allen is a cross-eye dominate shooter who’s mechanics follow the S.E.D.R.S. shooting philosophy.  Ray shoots with his right hand but shoots through his left eye as you can see from these photos.

Notice how Ray’s right shooting hand IS NOT behind the ball but instead is on the side. You can also see that Ray’s shooting motion is on his Left side which indicates his left eye dominance.

You can see in this YouTube clip that Ray brings the ball up on his Left side and shoots through his left eye. You will also notice his shooting elbow is not perfectly straight and that is because he needs to center the ball over his dominant eye. So his arm must be bent to accommodate his cross-eye dominance.  Ray Allen is cross-eye dominant just like Lonzo Ball, Kevin Durant, & Ben Simmons.

Ray Allen is arguably the 2nd best 3 point shooter of all time behind Steph Curry.  His mechanics confirms what is know to be true in regards to shooting a basketball. Shooting hand on the side of the ball palm rotates towards the Rim, Shoot through your dominant eye, watch the flight of the ball, dip, four fingers down release, turn and sweep & sway.  If you are cross-eye dominant you should really consider imitating Ray Allen’s mechanics. Everyone says there are many different ways to shoot a basketball yet when we study the best shooter we see time and time again the same concepts laid out in the S.E.D.R.S. shooting philosophy.
